FUTUR ANTI PORTRAITS  is a photographic project inspired by the Futurist art movement of the early 20th century, by Anton Giulio Bragaglia’s photodynamism as well as by the paintings of Giacomo Balla, one of the great futurist masters, whose extraordinary artistic quest still influences the images we see today.

In 1911, Bragaglia published his photographic experiments in his essay “Fotodinamismo Futurista” which caused a feud within the movement: according to his detractors, these experiments had nothing to do with art!

However, the founder of the movement, Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, intervened in the quarrel and supported Bragaglia’s project, even financially, as he was convinced he could see “the future” in those pictures!

This “future”, which is now our past, is what inspired Sebastiano Bianco to create his FUTUR ANTI PORTRAITS. But, while Futurism wanted to break free from the past at all costs and glorified the present and the future, the artist is just as determined to do the exact opposite.

This project consists of 7 prints and a composition of 15 small framed pictures.

These images were inspired by the futurist jackets which Giacomo Balla drew for his futurist world and by one of the photographs of the F.A.P. project , “Lo sgabello dell’uomo strano”, which portrays the artist sitting on a stool with no legs.
This image represents the dual condition of the artist, who is immobile because he feels overwhelmed by the flood of images he must emerge from, but at the same time he is forced to change in order to adapt to every situation, in an effort to find a small glimmer of “visibility/life”, changing his “jacket-idea” as necessary.
